10/11/14 we did a verification visit to Genius Brain and Genius Math. We didn't verify the claim of non-whites not being able to work downstairs. We also didn't verify the claim there is a nationality based pay scale. For the former issue we simply observed the appearance of people working at both stores. There were two white teachers, indeed the only ones in view, upstairs. There were about 3 Arab ones downstairs. We spoke with Arabs at both locations. For the latter issue we were using the cover story that I was new in Kuwait, looking for work and had heard a rumor of nationality based pay scale in the country. The story was that I wanted to avoid a job where there was discrimination in the workplace. As stated above, when asked directly at both paves staff said that pay was equal regardless of nationality. At Genius Brain upstairs they were more open. 'For you', they said, 'it would be 500kd and up [per month].' They also said it would be 8-10kd per hour as a tutor. The claim could be verified now by an easterner visiting and seeing if they would say it was 500kd a month for them too.
